Red Lake Fishing Report: 1-25-08
|
Our roads are looking great
this year!
The lake has been free of ice heaves on our end this year,
so we haven’t had to construct any bridges. And with the
exception of one small ridge about ¼ mile out from our
access, we’ve got nothing but smooth roads to drive on. We
just widened our access this week. So now there’s no
waiting. You can get on the lake even when someone else is
trying to leave.
We couldn’t help but overhear some people complaining about
having to drive 6 to 9 miles across Red Lake to get to
Center Bar. Our Access is located just 5.4 miles away from
Center Bar and we're connected to it by good plowed roads.
There’s nobody closer to Center Bar on Red Lake. Since we’re
talking about distances, when you take the back roads, our
access is about 30 miles less when driving north from
Bemidji.
The walleye fishing was slower yesterday. The big cold
front that pushed through here was probably the culprit.
While the walleyes didn’t like the cold front, the big pike
didn’t seem to mind. We had several houses report catching
really nice pike. The extended forecast calls for warmer
temperatures on the Lake by this weekend, so we should see
the walleye bite pick back up again real soon. The crappies
have been spotty. We’ve only been seeing a few crappies
being caught here and there.
